Industry pundits across the globe continue to lay predictions about the technologies that are here – and those that are coming – that will forever revolutionize our businesses. It can be hard to keep up, so today, I want to share with you 3 technologies that are important for you to start thinking about now:

  1. Big Data
  2. Artificial Intelligence
  3. Robotics

Let’s dive into each a bit further:

Big Data

Big data is here now. It is a capability that has matured rapidly in the last five years and it now gives you the ability to take data and transform it into actionable information that you can use to drive not only your company strategy, but also your total company experience (customers, employees, users), your operational roadmap, your services and solutions, and so on.

Companies across all verticals need to start building a foundation around big data and crafting a data strategy that is business-driven and an enabler. To be successful, data has to be trustworthy, reliable, accessible and digestible. When creating a data-centric culture, you need to establish fundamental pieces: a data governance structure, clear understanding of ownership, unified data definitions, a mechanism for ensuring data quality, and methods for reporting, accessing and querying data that puts actionable information in the hands of stakeholders.

Big data serves as our compass: indicating what to do and where to head next. With those directional indicators, we can inspire our teams to take action with confidence.

Artificial Intelligence

Gartner made a big claim last year when they said that by the end of 2024, 75 percent of organizations will shift from piloting to operationalizing AI. Artificial Intelligence has had a long gestation, but it is coming to maturity at a level it never did in the next few years.

It is no longer a parlor game. It is no longer a trend like somebody getting on Jeopardy. It’s now maturing to the point where it can actually drive real business value. For that reason, leadership teams are increasingly exploring what parts of their business could be driven by the use of Artificial Intelligence tools. There is a whole science around how this needs to get done but to dive a bit further, I encourage you to check out one of my recent blogs about how AI is not just a theory. It’s here. Robotics

The final technology that we need to start talking about as it relates to business is robotics, and I am also going to tie robotics in this particular case to something called the Internet of Things (IoT). Today, not only do we have the capability of robotics, especially driven by AI, to do things that before only humans could do, but we now have the ability to wire together systems through a connection called IoT.

I’ll give you an example right now…

Imagine in the future where you would have a smart house and this smart house can communicate with you by text and it could do things like manage environmental systems, purchasing, things like that, and based on watching your patterns it could start doing things for you or giving you options in anticipation of you actually asking for them. This is technology that’s here right now, it’s just a matter of wiring it together. So this could happen very quickly, and it offers a lot of opportunity for any number of businesses to improve their experience and ability to get both enjoyment and a lucrative profit out of what we do every day.

Looking to get a jump-start on introducing some of these technologies into your environment? Drop us a note here. We would be happy to talk through some of the latest tech enablers and how they can fuel your business.
